At the time of this review, this is the best bookstore I've visited in the Detroit area so far. John King is excellent and is a fascinating tourist attraction, but Paper Trail is more affordable and better-organized. I walked away with five quality good books for $16. That's hard to beat.

I loved this book store! I went in while there was a man (I’m guessing the owner) playing the piano. Honestly, it was one of the best shopping experiences I’ve ever had. lol I looked through records and books while soft piano music filled my background. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. The books are very nicely priced and I just love the atmosphere. The selection is amazing too! I’ll definitely be back soon.

Just found out about this place. Books are organized so they are easier to look through! They even have some vintage magazines for sale.

I love bookstores, especially ones that have new as well as classic and vintage books. It had the atmosphere of a library, warm and welcoming and quiet. They have a huge variety of books for all types, even manga and comic books. I found some children's books from my childhood I didn't think I would ever see again. I look forward to finding more gems here in the future!

Excellent Used Book Store!!! They had the book I've been looking for a long time! I tried John King and some others, but, couldn't find it!! Dicey's Song by Cynthia Voight is a book that I read as a teen and wanted to read again! My Heart was Very Happy to have found it here! This wasn't a planned trip, I took my daughter to another store and to pass the time came here, and Wow! I'm so Glad I came! The worker was So Nice and helpful! I got the 30 year old book in hardback, which he said, was a very rare find! Run don't walk the Paper Trail Books! You just might find a long lost book from your youth like I did! The price was Right, $6.50! I was thinking about ordering it online, now, I don't have to worry about it! I'd much rather help this small business!

I love this cozy and spacious bookstore. Hail to royal oak for not being a city that acts like poison to bookshops. Great owner who knows his stuff and his selection is great. It feels like those bookshops in the village I’d visit in New York until that area became one big box shopping mall.

Large selection and good prices! Plus they take Apple Pay! They also have a section full of signed books, I was able to get a signed copy of a Mitch Albom book :)

My daughter and I LOVE Paper Trail Books. It's one of those hidden treasures you find in a charming downtown district. 🥹 We especially love visiting every Christmas Eve; it's our little holiday tradition. 😊 The bookshop is so cozy, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I love that you can find unique finds and classic literature. I once found a novel at this shop that I had to read when I was a junior in high school (1998)! It's a novel that isn't always easy to find at the chain bookstores, so I thought that was really cool. 😁📚 P.S. — The piano is my favorite. 🎹🎶 Idk why. I don't even play piano 😄 (does "Hot Cross Buns" count? 😂), but I just love seeing it every time I walk into the shop. 🥹😁
